The periodic table of SEO success factors part 7 HTML Code
November 18, 2015The periodic table of SEO success factors part 9, trust and authority
November 23, 2015In a previous article, I have explained a part of the third column of “elements” of the periodic table of SEO success factors which is HTML code. In this article, I will explain the rest of this column beginning with Structured Data.
Hs: Structured Data
Using structured data you can tell search engines what your content is about in their own “language”? Behind the scenes, sites can use specific code that makes it easy for search engines to understand the details of the page content and structure.
Structured data often shows something that is called a ‘rich snippet‘, a search listing that has extra signs that make it more attractive and useful to users. The most common rich snippet you’re likely to encounter is reviewed/ratings which usually includes eye-catching stars.
Some SEO experts say that the use of structured data is not a direct ranking factor, but it could be clearly a success factor. All things being equal, a listing with a rich snippet will get more clicks than one without. And search engines are encouraging site owners to embrace structured data, providing new and easier ways for less tech-savvy webmasters to participate.
Hh: Header Tags
If you look at the top of pages big titles there are heading tags which are called H1 in HTML. And the subtitles are called H2 – H6.
Header tags are a formal way to identify key sections of a web page. Search engines have long used them as signs what the page is all about. If the words you want to be found for are in header tags, you have a slightly increased chance of appearing in searches for those words.
Like a magazine or newspaper which has titles and subtitles Header Tags are used to show the important titles and subtitles and in websites, you have to use your keywords in these header tags and not putting a whole paragraph in headers.
Header tags are useful when they reflect the structure of a page. If you have a main headline, use an H1 tag. Relevant subheads should use an H2 tag. Use headers as they make sense and they may reinforce other ranking factors.
