What is a citation in Local SEO?
January 8, 2016The importance of consistency in citations
January 13, 2016A sitemap lays out all of the content on your site and helps both the search engine spiders and the visitors to your site and find all the information they’re looking for. Now there are traditionally two types of sitemaps, the HTML sitemap, and the XML sitemap. The HTML site map is key for both users and crawlers, while the XML sitemap is really only key for crawlers.
The purpose of the sitemap is to spell out the website’s central content themes and to show both search engine spiders and your visitors where they can find all the information on your site.
I really recommend having your sitemap at your domain/sitemap. The next type of sitemap is the XML sitemap, and this gives the search engines an easy way to see all the links available on your site, along with some other suggested information to help them understand how often the content will be updated and what you see as the overall priority.
What we get in XML sitemap is some additional information. We get a date when the page was last modified, how frequently it changes, and a priority ranking. Building an XML sitemap can be a bit of a challenge, but you can use tools on the internet to build such a sitemap.
Even if you have a small website, your HTML and XML sitemaps are just another great opportunity to gain an advantage over your competition.
